This workshop is designed to assist storytellers in moving a story from the written tradition into a performance in the oral tradition. Together, we will explore how the body, voice, and word choices can bring a story to life by identifying the purpose and audience, re-viewing the storyline, and stepping away from the page. Teachers, Sunday School teachers, ministers, motivational speakers, librarians, both emerging and experienced storytellers and anyone in the business of communicating can benefit from this close look at ways to thaw a tale.

The frozen forms we will consider are from four distinct groups: sacred tales; stories written by the teller for a reading audience; historical documents that preserved a special event, place, or person; and published folktales in the public domain.

During the workshop we will examine ways to bring a story to life through lecture,  brainstorming, small group activities, and an opportunity to share with the entire group.
