West Virginia Storytelling Guild Storyteller Code of Conduct

In order to appear on a Guild event roster or represent the Guild at a Guild-sanctioned event, a given member must sign this form. The WVSG will keep signed forms on record.

The West Virginia Storytelling Guild encourages its members to present stories and art as they have learned, created, or interpreted, and does not intend to censor its members or restrict their use of language or content within the artistic setting as long as they adhere to this code of conduct. Members understand and agree that they are representing the organization when telling stories on behalf of the Guild and/or at Guild events. Therefore, when in these settings, their stories must not allow for the promotion of terrorist organizations, utilize hate speech, and/or refer to pornographic, sexually suggestive, or other content deemed “adult” or “Rated R” unless the event specifically asks for content that fits these themes for educational purposes and is advertised as such. Additionally, the display of any symbols representative of organizations and ideologies associated with white supremacy groups or any other hate group or organization that seeks to promote fear and violence is prohibited at Guild sponsored or endorsed events. Exception may be granted if these details are explicitly referenced within the story narrative as coming from another person, and if so, must be cleared in advance of the event with the WVSG organizing representative so that the Guild might provide an adequate warning to the audience. Exceptions will be made for academic and educational purposes only. If a story is in question, simply consult the advice of the WVSG organizing representative in advance of the event.

By signing, I agree to the above WVSG Storyteller Code of Conduct
